Regulatory Agency Paper Annamarie Jenkins April 2, 2012 HCS/430 Federal Drug and Food Administration â€Å"The Federal Drug Administration is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services. The FDA organization consist of the Office of Commissioner and four directorates overseeing four core functions of the agency: Medical Products, and Tobacco, Foods, Global Regulatory Operations, and Policy, and Operations† (FDA, 2011). The FDA†¦show more content†¦This agency consist of nine centers and office, each department has a Deputy Commissioner who has to report to the Commissioner of the FDA. Within each of these departments have directors and assistant commissioners who report to the deputy commissioners. These departments have their particular job to keep his or her superior informed of any possible dangers with food or drugs including cosmetics. The FDA is duty bound to follow regulations and laws to ensure the safety of consumers by communicating them to the Commissioner and then to the Department of Health and Human Services. Day-to-Day Operations The responsibilities of the Federal Drug and Food Administration is to ensure the safety of food, drugs, and cosmetics. The day-to-day operations of the FDA occur within the Office of Operations. This office provides the leadership for operational activities, interaction, and execution of programs initiated by the commissioner. The Officer of Operations (OO) had the authority to delegate direction, regulating documentation, ethical, and conflict of interest matters. The OO provides advises to the Commissioner on various management and business activities of the agency. Plans, directs, and coordinates financial programs and furnishes financial reports regarding the status of these programs.
